Acceptance of These Terms

By using this website or opting in to receive text messages from Dr. Melissa Burman, MD, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site or opt in to messaging.

These terms sit alongside our privacy policy and medical disclaimer. Where the medical disclaimer speaks to clinical matters, it governs.

SMS Communications

If you tick the SMS consent box on our appointment request form, you agree to receive text messages from Dr. Melissa Burman, MD at the phone number you provided.

• —What we send. Appointment reminders, scheduling and care coordination updates, and replies to messages you send us. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.
• —Consent is optional. Agreeing to receive texts is never a condition of scheduling an appointment or of receiving care. The box is unticked by default, and you can request an appointment without it.
• —Message frequency. Message frequency may vary, and depends on your appointments and on messages you send us.
• —Cost. Message and data rates may apply. We don’t charge for text messages; your mobile carrier may.

How to Opt Out or Get Help

You can opt back in at any time by ticking the consent box again on the appointment request form, or by asking the practice directly. Opting out of text messages does not affect your care, your appointments, or any other way we contact you.

Carrier Disclaimers

• —Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
• —Message delivery is subject to your carrier's network and to conditions outside our control. We cannot guarantee that any given message will be delivered, or delivered on time.
• —You are responsible for keeping us informed of changes to your mobile number. If a number is reassigned, messages intended for you may reach someone else.
• —Text messaging is not a secure channel and is not monitored continuously. Never use it to report an urgent medical problem.

Data Protection

SMS opt-in data and consent, including phone numbers collected for SMS communications, will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

We keep a record of your consent — what you agreed to, and when — so we can demonstrate it was given. Your number is used only for the purposes described above, and is processed by the service providers named in our privacy policy, which explains in full what we collect and why.

Please don’t send symptoms, diagnoses, imaging, medications, or other personal health information by text. Text messaging is not a secure, HIPAA-covered channel.

Use of This Website

• —The content here is educational and general. It is not medical advice, and using this site does not create a physician–patient relationship.
• —Please use the site lawfully, and don't attempt to disrupt it or gain access to parts of it that aren't public.
• —Content on this site is owned by the practice unless stated otherwise. You're welcome to read and share it; please don't republish it as your own.

Changes to These Terms

If these terms change, the revised version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date. Material changes to the messaging programme will be described plainly rather than buried.
